Introduction:

The quiz show Who Wants to be a Millionaire?, which is hosted by Chris Tarrant, has been running on ITV1 since 4th September 1998. In that time the show has given away a huge amount of cash prizes which have literally changed the lives of many of the contestants; while becoming a worldwide hit in the process.

In 2007 the prize board was changed. Originally the questions started at £100, now the first question is worth £500, thus further adding to the speed and excitment of the show.

  • Who Wants to be a Millionaire? is now a global hit with the shows format being licensed or optioned in 106 countries.
  • The production company 2waytraffic are now the makers of Who Wants to be a Millionaire? for ITV1.
  • The show was originally made by Celeador at Fountain Studios in Wembley, where ITV1's The X-Factor is currently made.
  • Stage 9 at Elstree Studios is the home of Who Wants to Millionaire?
  • Stage 9, which is used to record Who Wants to be a Millionaire?, has been used for the making of literally hundreds of film & television productions over the years.
  • The Who Wants to be a Millionaire? stage is just a short walk away from the Big Brother house.
  • The Millionaire stage is a short walk from the stage where Dancing On Ice is broadcast. 
  • To date, five people have won £1 million pounds each on Who Wants to be a Millionaire?
  • The satellite TV channel Challenge broadcasts repeats of this series most days of the week.
